Hello! Hey, quick question, do you guys still email people just to say hi/catch up/whatever? I was just thinking about it yesterday, there was an article about "What type of email writer are you?" And I was all "What is this, 2005?!" And I had a little look in the ghost town that is my hotmail account and noticed how much more I/we used to email before Facebook, even just a few years ago. Such is life I guess...still, kinda weird/sad. ANYway, I digress!
So I am continuing on with my “Weird Things” series (ok I've done two now, that's totally a series!)…today's is a weird thing I
do with makeup. I mean, I don’t know that it is that weird, I’m pretty sure I’ve read
makeup artists do it sometimes, but well, it seems slightly not the done thing
so I will go with it!
Since I have been working out again, I have re-discovered
this "weird thing" as a sort of quick fix/necessity for me, as I am a person who
turns beetroot red when I exercise, and the colour lasts for at least an hour
afterwards. It's not “glamorously flushed” at all, but more “OMG Are you going to die? - I
can call an ambulance right now!”. It’s not pretty, basically, and if I need
to not look like a scary red faced person, I do this….
No, that is not foundation on my face. That is concealer. Yes, I went a bit overboard here, but you get the gist! That’s right; I am saying I use concealer instead of foundation or BB cream or whatever, in moments of desperation, or when I am just particularly flushed. Is this just a weird thing I do or has anyone else out there tried it too?
Why I prefer concealer to foundation sometimes is that it stays put
even if I’m still a bit overheated, I don’t look shiny or need powder on top (I ALWAYS looks shiny
and need powder generally after foundation), so it really is a handy little “quick fix” type makeup trick for me. And bizarrely, this probably makes
no actual sense, but I don’t feel like I’m wearing as much makeup as I do when
I wear foundation. Of course, you have to be careful it doesn’t wash you
out too much. I suppose ideally you would buy a slightly darker shade than you
would normally use for blemishes, but I just use what I've got and go with it.
It’s probably not suitable for very dry or mature skin, but anyway, there it is. I prefer using
very lightweight concealers like Rimmel Wake Me Up (I used to use their Reveal, which I’m 99% sure was just re-branded as this stuff!), Maybelline Fit Me is
what I used in this pic although tbh I would probably only use that in a pinch,
- also I like to use that rollerball concealer thing by Garnier in the same way,
it’s particularly great at being sheer and matte at once (I don’t own one at
the moment, reminder to self!).
How about you, do you have any strange or unusual things you
do with makeup? J
I've never managed to learn how to properly put on makeup. I feel like it's one of those things that as long as I don't look like a super pale ghost and my eyeliner is somewhat even I'm winning.
ReplyDeleteI got to a point where I could do a basic smoky eye and that's where I stopped learning. I do like watching other people do makeup, like Lisa Eldridge, etc., in the hope it will somehow imprint upon me, but generally if I try something outside my wheelhouse it ends up looking bad and I wipe it all off! ;-0
DeleteMakeup quirks: I never wear mascara. I use eyeliner to do my eyebrows. I put concealer round my mouth cos I chew my lips which go red. Sometimes I put it on my neck and cleavage too. I hate foundation, it goes in my pores. I always wear nail polish even on my toes. Weird.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of one time I saw Joan Collins on QVC, advising ladies to put makeup all the way from neck down to décolletage - if it's good enough for Joan! ;-)
DeleteGood subject btw I look forward to more of these!
ReplyDeleteYour skin looks amazing in the last photo so I'm sold on this technique!
ReplyDeleteThanks Janet! Let me know what you think! ;-0
Deletei think the weird thing for me is that i don't really know how to put on makeup :( eyeliner is a disaster. i get super red just from normal conversation so i'd have to wear concealer all day err day to try to mask that, ha.
ReplyDeleteConcealer is definitely the red faced girl's friend, though a little blushing is not so bad as my sweaty tomato face, I am sure! I never wore much makeup in my teens/twenties, so I don't have the sort of years of crazy makeup skills I see with the modern day makeup gurus who look about 12 on Youtube!
DeleteI pinch my cheeks instead of wearing blush.
ReplyDeleteYou and Scarlett O'Hara both! ;-)
DeleteNow I need to read "Gone With the Wind."
ReplyDeleteOh do, it's an awesome book! Well I haven't read it in along time but I loved it, thik I even read it twice.
